BrailleLearn is a free, interactive way for blind and partially sighted children — and the families and teachers who support them — to learn Braille.

Why we built this

Learning Braille can feel isolating when the people around a child don't know it themselves. Most parents, siblings and even teachers of a newly blind or partially sighted child have never touched a Braille cell before. We built BrailleLearn so an entire family could learn together — on a phone or laptop, for free, at their own pace — rather than a blind child learning alone.

Every lesson pairs the dot pattern with a spoken description and a memory tip, because Braille isn't just a visual alphabet swapped for a tactile one — it has its own logic, and that logic is easier to hold onto with a story attached to it.

What BrailleLearn offers

Six structured lessons taking learners from the first five letters through the full alphabet and numbers, with a quiz after each one to check what's stuck. A live translator turns any typed text into Braille instantly, and a dot tapper works the other way — tap the dots you can feel or see, and it tells you the letter. Four games make repetition feel like play rather than homework, and progress tracking with streaks and achievements gives children a reason to come back tomorrow.

Our approach

We keep the free tier genuinely useful — the first lesson, the alphabet reference, and a couple of free translations — so anyone can try it properly before deciding whether to unlock everything. Full access is a single small yearly payment, not a subscription that creeps up over time, because we think the barrier to learning Braille should be as low as we can make it.
